Meditation is a practice where one shifts or trains the mind to be in a different mode of consciousness, either to realize some benefit or for the mind to simply acknowledge its content without becoming identified with that content, or as an end in itself. It may involve generating an emotional state for the purpose of analyzing that state—such as anger, hatred, etc.—or cultivating a particular mental response to various phenomena, such as compassion, and the term can refer to the state itself, as well as to practices or techniques employed to cultivate the state. Meditation has a calming effect and directs awareness inward until pure awareness is achieved, described as “being awake inside without being aware of anything except awareness itself.” In brief, there are dozens of specific styles of meditation practice, and many different types of activity commonly referred to as meditative practices. Discovering Your Core Gift: (not to be confused with Core BELIEFS) We are all gifted: “Every human being is born with some sort of gift, an inclination or an instinct that can become a full-blown mastery. We may not see our gift for what it is. Having seen it we may choose not to accept the gift and its consequences for our life. Or, having claimed our gift, we may not be willing to do the hard work necessary to nurture it. But none of these evasions can alter the fact that the gift is ours. Each of us is a master at something, and part of becoming fully alive is to discover and develop our birthright competence.” – Parker Palmer (refer to specific page for fuller information).
Passion of the Dark Heart: We commonly view the areas of our life which are associated with the dark heart as difficult, painful and unwelcome. Because of this we are not familiar with them, or not comfortable walking the paths they require, and are not at peace working our way through them. Instead we often go down into the realm of darkness dramatically, unaware and unprepared. Sometimes it can be years before we even begin to understand what is going on let alone what we can, or even need to, do about it. other times we know perfectly well what to do, yet with little or no support, it takes a long time and a lot of suffering before we emerge on the other side. The dark heart is within each of us. It deals with change, and death (in many aspects and forms) is one of those changes…leaving a job, ending a relationship, letting go a dream which we have tightly held onto, or letting go a treasured belief. The shadow heart deals with dark issues that occur in daylight, dawn and dusk…in the light. Yet in true darkness, no shadows are to be seen.
Approaching the dark heart involves a surrender on the deepest levels, and the specific results cannot be known or even imagined beforehand, as the journey belongs in the actual dark where there are no shadows and everything is merged. That is…until a light is struck – and that light is the light of dawn, of the re-birth of the Soul! As part of the integration within us between light and dark, this is important. It is in the brightest, most empowered places, that issues such as fear, loss, death and letting go are highlighted. In darkness therefore, you will find your re-birth, transformation and new beginnings.
